Uncle Sam Makes a Mortgage Payment

As approval draws near on government housing bailout it's no surprise. If you're going to jump into Dumbass Lake just make sure you hold hands with a million people while you do it. The life buoys will fall like rain. Amongst the jumpers are both lenders and borrowers. Lenders for writing mortgages that essentially were a real estate play. Speculation and investment that have no business being in the mortgage arena where a house is supposed to be collateral, not an appreciating asset to bet on. Borrowers for picking up these loans which they knew they couldn't cover if unless the market continued to rise and their house appreciated; payments the knew they couldn't make once a little something called, gee, principle kicked in. It's a clear sign that holistically speaking we lack the time, the decision-making skills, the maturity, or the intelligence or some combination thereof to discern a really shitty idea from a good one. Damn near seems proof enough to turn even a hard core Republican towards favoring a little more government regulation.
